Born on August 14, 1978, in Otake City, Hiroshima, Japan.

In 1999, he joined the rock band tobaccojuice as its frontman, singing and performing while releasing ten albums through labels including King Records and Universal Records before the band entered a hiatus.

He then began activities with the band-format session project Toshimasa Matsumoto & Higher Self.

As a member of the physical sound unit KUFUKI, responsible for psychic performance and voice, he released two albums and toured internationally in countries including South Korea, Germany, Portugal, and the United Kingdom.

In January 2018, he released a tribute album to the film Bangkok Nites through EM Records, and also released the EP Dodome through the UK-based label Les Editions Japonais.

In 2019, tobaccojuice gently resumed activities.

In 2020, he devoted himself to livestream performances, both from live houses and from his home.

In 2021, Toshimasa Matsumoto & Higher Self released a full-length album through Rose Records.

In 2022, he began raising a child at the foot of Mt. Takao.

In 2023, as TSU! & KUFUKI, he digitally released Manjushage through the Turkish label Cazplak, and founded the music label Doraku.

In 2024, KUFUKI conducted a tour in Turkey, including performances at the Sakura Festival held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Japan. Music originally released by tobaccojuice during their time with King Records and Universal Records also became available on streaming platforms, and in October, tobaccojuice performed a live show for the first time in some time.

In 2025, the full-length album by TSU! & KUFUKI was completed, and his first solo release Nap was digitally released through his independent label DORAKU.

In 2026, a physical release of Nap is scheduled, along with the release of the TSU! & KUFUKI album iyi.
